Meet the Team
Chris Waldron, PE
Chris Waldron is a professional environmental engineer with over 24 years of successful environmental consulting and project management experience. Chris's achievements can be directly attributed to his commitment to hard work, his dedication to our customers and employees, his knowledge and desire to keep learning, and his energy and enthusiasm to lead teams. Chris’s commitment to providing unparalleled customer service is one of the things that drives him to find the best, most practicable solution(s) for our customers. He is an effective communicator and writer, and an exceptional negotiator. Chris has developed, negotiated, and implemented risk-based strategies at numerous MTCA, CERCLA, and RCRA sites. He is a recognized expert in the MTCA rule and was asked by the Washington State Department of Ecology to write sections of the Sediment Cleanup User’s Manual that will accompany the revised Sediment Management Standards. He was also the primary author of the United States Navy’s Human Health Risk Assessment Guidance and Vapor Intrusion Guidance documents. Chris’s dedication, experience, and expertise add value to each and every one of his projects.
Brad Grimsted, MS, MBA
Brad Grimsted has successfully managed environmental projects for more than 26 years. He is an expert in toxicology, risk assessment, and project management. Brad’s business acumen and his focus on redevelopment during the cleanup process have set him apart from other project managers. He is a pragmatic and practical thinker who often comes up with innovative, “out-of-the box” ideas that solve environmental problems. He excels at building and nurturing teams and relationships, and he is committed to providing our customers with world-class customer service. Brad is currently the project manager overseeing the cleanup of a large-scale redevelopment project in California. He also managed the remediation and redevelopment of a 841-acre hazardous waste site in Washington State (one of the largest MTCA sites in the state). The former explosives manufacturing site was redeveloped into a beautiful 18-hole championship-class golf course. Brad's focus on redevelopment, his ability to lead teams, and his commitment to returning hazardous sites back to active use results in satisfied customers, regulators, and stakeholders.
Troy Bussey Jr, PE, LG, LHG
Troy Bussey is a uniquely-qualified and highly-effective project manager with more than 20 years of experience. In addition to being very knowledgeable (he is a professional environmental engineer in Washington State, a professional geologist in Washington State and California, a professional hydrogeologist in Washington State, and a professional chemical engineer in California, and he has Masters degrees in Chemical Engineering and Geology), he has a strong work ethic and is very detail oriented. Troy is very hands on and extremely well organized; he completes project tasks on time and on budget. He is an expert in strategic planning, and remedy evaluation, selection, and optimization. His commitment to finding the best solutions for site-specific issues has made him a successful and an effective project manager. Troy focuses on finding the best solution for his customers. On one project, he strategically coupled interim actions with initial infrastructure redevelopment, which reduced overall cleanup costs and saved his customer millions of dollars.
DENISE LAFLAMME, MS, MPH
We are very pleased to introduce Denise Laflamme as the newest member of our PIONEER Team. Denise is an accomplished (and published) epidemiologist and toxicologist with over 25 years of experience in public health while at the Washington State Department of Health. She has masters’ degrees in public health and toxicology and has extensive experience in risk communication, risk assessment, surveillance and epidemiology methods, project management and public policy. Denise is an excellent leader who has a strong work ethic and positive attitude. She is an exceptional communicator, mentor, and problem solver; these qualities, combined with her experience and expertise, give her a unique perspective in the consulting industry. We are excited about the value Denise will add to PIONEER’s projects. While she will provide input and advice on many facets of PIONEER’s projects, her focus will be on human health risk assessment, toxicology, and epidemiology. We are confident she will be an asset on every project on which she works and we are thrilled she has decided to join the PIONEER Team!
Mr. Grimsted has over 10 years of commercial software
development and data management experience. He is committed to creating customized solutions
to improve existing software and databases and is always willing to put in the extra hours and go the extra mile to successfullly complete project tasks. He has a strong
work ethic, and because of his breadth of experience, is able to fulfill any role that is needed to successfully complete a project.
As a team leader, Eric works tirelessly with team members to accomplish project goals. He is reliable,
knowledgeable, and compassionate, and he is often seen sitting with team members, patiently explaining complicated concepts and working through issues.
He an accomplished in Enterprise N-Tiered Web Application design and development using Microsoft .NET Framework, and experienced in VB.NET, VBScript,
Ms. Roberts is a GIS expert with over seven years of experience managing projects, and creating and communicating site data through mapping. Kara is knowledgeable, friendly, and approachable, which have made her an invaluable GIS resource for the PIONEER Team and our customers. She examines and evaluates a data set until she has a complete understanding of the intricacies of the data, and she expertly communicates the results to customers, regulators, and stakeholders through maps. She has designed and instructed custom GIS training courses for the United States Navy. She has also been responsible for managing a large exposure assessment for an overseas military base on behalf of the Navy, and has written multiple technical documents in support of the evaluation. She has performed risk assessments, participated in risk communication events, and supported all phases of hazardous waste site investigations. She has also planned and performed multiple field activities, including multimedia sampling and real-time dust monitoring.
KEVIN GALLAGHER, MS
Mr. Gallagher is a project manager with over 10 years of technical and project management experience. Kevin is smart, focused, and well organized. These qualities, combined with his personable and easy going nature, have led to his success as a project manager and team leader. Kevin is currently responsible for managing the soil RCRA Facility Investigation being conducted at a large-scale hazardous waste site in California. He is also the site safety officer and lead for all soil remediation work being conducted at the site. As the site safety officer, he is responsible for reinforcing and promoting the safety culture and objectives at the site. Kevin is extremely detail oriented and determined in his efforts to make sure that all project requirements are met. He expertly plans and scopes field activities, and effectively manages the contractors and vendors during field operations. Kevin has experience performing all phases of RCRA, MTCA, and CERCLA cleanups and has authored work plans, safety plans, data gap investigation reports, and complex technical reports.
Senior Software Engineer
Mr. Shimoji is an accomplished software
engineer with over 14 years of commercial software
development and data management experience. His
greatest strength is his ability to solve complex problems
by selecting the appropriate software development tool to address
our customers' specific needs.
He is highly skilled
in custom software and web-application development, automation
utilities, database design and integration, and
large-scale database management. He creates effective, easy-to-use software
solutions, ensuring product
application integrity, stability, and reliability.
He has designed, developed, and managed multiple enterprise databases to store medical,
chemical, and physical data for projects, and he has designed and developed a number of innovative
web-based applications for the United States Navy. He has also created automation procedures
to manage large complex projects and meet tight project deadlines.
Ms. Noyen has over four years of
environmental consulting experience and over 12 years of research analysis and
business administration experience. Her success as a project scientist is directly related to her work ethic, her strong organizational skills and her commitment to successfully bringing project tasks to completion.
Ms. Noyen is an effective communicator and collaborator who works well in a team environment, but she is also a self-starter and tackles every task with a goal in mind. She is extremely responsive to her coworkers and
her customers. She has performed multimedia investigations and human health risk assessments, edited technical reports and guidance documents, and analyzed large environmental datasets.
Shella Swain, MS
Ms. Swain has over five years of technical experience in
environmental consulting and field biology. She is extremely bright, creative, and well organized. She adeptly juggles multiple project tasks at one time and is able to
complete these tasks on time and on budget. She is a problem solver by nature and is able to suggest unique solutions to technical issues.
She has led and performed field sampling activities, managed and analyzed environmental data, and performed Phase I and II Environmental Site Assessments. She is an
excellent writer and has authored technical memoranda, field sampling and analysis plans, data gap investigation reports, and other technical reports. She is an expert in GIS, Excel, and
Ms. Roloff has over 11 years of environmental consulting experience. She is responsible for all of PIONEER's technical editing and marketing tasks. She has
successfully edited technical and guidance documents, technical reports, user's guides, public participation plans, and websites. She is committed to making sure PIONEER is producing high quality, technically defensible, and transparent reports. Her attention
to detail and careful review of documents ensures that
PIONEER's reports are accurate, well written, and
understandable for technical and non-technical audiences. Her background in advertising and marketing have led to her role as PIONEER's marketing coordinator. She is responsible for all of PIONEER's public relations, marketing,
and communication strategies and initiatives. She has been responsible for the communication efforts at a large site in California.
Mr. Sykes is a dedicated, conscientious, and talented software engineer whose skills and knowledge far outweigh his years of experience.
In his three years with PIONEER, Mr. Sykes has become an essential member of the development team. He leads by example; he has a strong work ethic and a positive
attitude. He has a thirst for knowledge and information, and is tenacious when it comes to problem solving. He's great to work with; he is driven to do
his best, complete project tasks, and exceed our customers' expectations on every project.
and has seamlessly integrated these databases with internet technologies to facilitate efficient data management. He is also our go-to guy for all website-related questions and support.
Mr. Munson has been managing site investigations and field activities for the past five years. Stacy epitomizes PIONEER's commitment to customer service. He is a great communicator and has a very positive attitude; these qualities have led to his success in the office as well as in the field. Stacy is a champion at efficiently and effectively completing tasks on time, and under budget. Stacy has a great can-do attitude; there is no task too big or too small. He approaches all projects with the same level of care and consideration. In addition to leading field activities, Stacy has evaluated and interpreted site data to provide soil excavation volumes, supported risk assessments and other site investigations, and created detailed innovative site maps using GIS to help clients visualize site conditions.
Ms. Nygren has over 15 years of office management experience. She successfully completes every task, big or small, with a calm, quiet, confidence. She also has great business savvy and embodies the entrepreneurial spirit of PIONEER. With a background in construction and real estate, she has provided a unique perspective to project management tasks. Ms. Nygren is responsible for assisting with environmental site investigations, risk assessments, long-term monitoring tasks, budget analysis, accounts payable, accounts receivable, compensation and benefits, office administration, and marketing tasks.
Heather McPherson, EIT
Heather McPherson joined the PIONEER Team as a project engineer in 2016. Her passion for a sustainable, green environment inspired her to seek a Bachelor of Science in Civil and Environmental Engineering from the University of Washington. Extremely determined, Heather passed the Engineer in Training (EIT) exam while completing her Bachelor of Science. She has over two years of experience supporting multiple project teams conducting remediation site research, assessing site mitigation cleanup status, performing human health risk assessment tasks, and conducting fieldwork for soil, stream, and wetland surveys and groundwater-dependent ecosystem evaluations. Heather’s positive attitude and commitment to improving human health and the environment benefit every PIONEER project.
Mr. Vaughn joined PIONEER in 2013 as a high-school intern with PIONEER's development team. He quickly showed a great aptitude and enthusiasm for computer programming and testing and, to the delight of PIONEER, recently became a full-time member of the team. He is continually striving to learn and improve his skill set. He is responsible for conducting all phases of software testing including writing and editing test documents and plans, and executing test plans. He also has experience in website development, Microsoft SQL Server Script, and Adobe Photoshop, Premiere Pro, and After Effects.
Katie Waldron, CPA
Ms. Waldron is a Certified Public Accountant with over 26 years of accounting and auditing experience. She is responsible for all accounting and financial functions at PIONEER including preparing and tracking budgets, billings, payroll, income tax, payables and all other general accounting areas. In addition to being the financial manager at PIONEER, Katie also manages all of PIONEER's human resources-related tasks, which include coordinating 401K benefits, selecting and managing health care insurance.
