Overview

Cleanup action activities have been conducted at this Model Toxics Control Act (MTCA) site to target constituents of concern. Historic activities at the former industrial property contaminated the soil and groundwater with total petroleum hydrocarbons (TPHs), polycyclic aromatic hydrocarbons (PAHs), dioxins and furans, and metals.

Our Solution

The PIONEER team is working on the MTCA site under an agreed order to facilitate remediation and redevelopment for the site. As part of the MTCA process, the selected remedy for the site was targeted soil removal, cover, and controls. The remedy included removing soil with constituent of concern concentrations above risk-based remediation levels and installing a clean, protective soil cover over areas of the site exceeding cleanup levels, and implementing institutional controls and developing a long-term operations and maintenance plan.

Results

Remedial investigation/feasibility study (RI/FS), cleanup action plan (CAP), and cleanup activities included providing strategic guidance to the client, developing customer-focused and cost effective risk-based approaches, and preparing all technical documents. PIONEER’s approach resulted in a successful cleanup that is protective of human health and the environment. PIONEER is continuing to provide in-depth expertise and redevelopment strategies that will help lead to the completion of East Bay Redevelopment Project.
